The terms of our community

Terms of Service

Clear expectations for using JewTLA, applying for membership, participating in private programs, and making payments through the site.

Effective August 22, 2026. These Terms of Service govern jewtla.jewishlausd.org and the memberships, events, contributions, forms, resources, accounts, and other services made available through the site (collectively, the “Services”).

1. Who operates JewTLA

JewTLA is an educator initiative of the Israeli-American Civic Action Network (“ICAN,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). JewTLA is not an official website or program of the Los Angeles Unified School District, United Teachers Los Angeles, or any other school district, school, union, or public agency.

2. Acceptance and eligibility

By using the Services, you agree to these Terms and the JewTLA Privacy Notice. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, apply for membership, register for a private event, or make a payment through the Services.

JewTLA membership is limited to current educators, retired educators, and adult students preparing for education work or completing student teaching. You do not need to be Jewish to apply. You agree to provide accurate, current information and to update information that materially affects your eligibility.

3. Application, approval, and Shared Values

Submitting a free application does not guarantee approval and does not create paid membership. ICAN may verify an applicant’s educator connection, request additional information, approve or decline an application, or revoke approval when eligibility or community-safety requirements are not met. Approved applicants must create or activate an account, accept the current JewTLA Shared Values, and complete checkout before receiving paid-member access.

4. Accounts and community access

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for activity under your account. Do not share member-only links, private event locations, member information, or restricted resources outside the audience for which they were provided. Notify us promptly through the contact page if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may limit, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect members, the Services, ICAN, or third parties; to investigate inaccurate application information; or to address a violation of these Terms or the Shared Values.

5. Membership dues, renewal, cancellation, and refunds

Current annual dues are displayed at checkout. As of the effective date, Morim — Educator Membership is $54 per year and Talmid — Education Student Membership is $18 per year. Memberships renew automatically each year using the saved payment method until canceled. Checkout identifies the amount, billing frequency, and renewal terms before you authorize payment.

You may cancel future renewal online through your Membership Account. Cancellation ends future automatic charges but does not automatically refund a completed membership period. Refund requests are considered individually and any refund required by law will be honored. We will provide notice before an annual renewal when required and will communicate material price changes before they take effect.

6. Contributions

Supporter contributions may be one-time or annually recurring, as selected at checkout. A contribution does not create JewTLA membership or access to member-only services. Annual contributions continue until canceled through the available account or cancellation method. Unless ICAN provides a written receipt stating otherwise, do not treat a payment as tax-deductible; consult your tax adviser regarding your circumstances.

7. Payments and third-party services

Payments are processed by Stripe. When you submit a payment, you authorize the charge and any recurring schedule clearly shown at checkout. Stripe, Google, and other service providers may process information under their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for an external service’s independent operation, but we remain responsible for the choices ICAN makes about the Services.

8. Events and safety

Some JewTLA events are private or limited to approved members. Registration may be required, capacity may be limited, and exact locations may be shared only with confirmed participants. Do not redistribute a private location, attendee list, recording, photograph, or participant statement without permission. ICAN may change or cancel an event and may deny or remove attendance when reasonably necessary for safety or compliance with these Terms.

9. Incident reports and user submissions

The Incident Report allows users to share information for review, advocacy, pattern analysis, support, and appropriate follow-up. It is not an emergency service, an official LAUSD or UTLA complaint, a police report, or a substitute for legal, union, employment, medical, or mental-health advice. If there is an immediate danger, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency authority.

You retain ownership of material you submit. You grant ICAN a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, review, organize, redact, and use the material as reasonably necessary to operate the Services, respond to the submission, conduct advocacy, comply with law, and protect ICAN and its community. You represent that you have the right to submit the material and will not knowingly submit unlawful, threatening, defamatory, malicious, or materially false content.

10. Acceptable use

Do not interfere with the Services; attempt unauthorized access; scrape or harvest personal information; impersonate another person; use the Services to harass, threaten, discriminate against, or endanger others; upload malicious code; or use member information for unsolicited commercial, political, or organizational outreach unrelated to an authorized JewTLA purpose.

11. Intellectual property

Except for user submissions and material expressly identified as belonging to someone else, the Services, JewTLA and ICAN names and marks, site design, original text, graphics, and software are owned by ICAN or its licensors. You receive a limited, revocable, nontransferable license to use the Services for their intended personal and professional-community purposes. No other rights are granted.

12. No professional or institutional advice

Resources and communications are provided for general educational, civic, and organizational purposes. They do not create an attorney-client, employment, union-representation, counseling, or fiduciary relationship and are not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional or an official institutional process.

13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available” to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, a particular membership decision, a specific response to an incident report, or any particular result from a resource, event, or introduction. To the fullest extent permitted by law, ICAN and its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the Services. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by California law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any action concerning these Terms or the Services must be brought in a state or federal court with jurisdiction in Los Angeles County, California, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

15. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms as the Services change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated through the site, account, or contact information we have for you when appropriate. Questions about these Terms may be submitted through the JewTLA contact page.
